Aadhaar project provided a unique identity to every Indian. Hence everyone became a data point which can be targeted in welfare schemes. Funds meant for welfare were earlier getting pilfered on the way to the beneficiaries. With Direct Benefit Transfer(DBT) we can safely say Indians have learnt to divide their welfare payouts equitably. A country of 1.38 billion people whose population multiplied from 35 crore pre independence and expected to be peaking at 160 crore(1.6 billion) by the middle of the century were known only for their huge population numbers earlier. A cursory look at the numbers here shows it all: (image taken from https://dbtbharat.gov.in) Since the Modi government took over it has transferred 15 lakh 47 thousand 500 crore in the seven years of office. Remember these numbers are exclusive of the state government figures of DBT or welfare.
